Castellane has 1539 inhabitants – height 723m – sous prefecture since 1799.

Is dominated by the Roc, a gigantic limestone formation of 184 meters high, a view that is worthwhile and one of the most special of the Haute Provence. A city with a rich history, a narrow passage that connects the Alps with the sea. Castellane with its narrow streets, the ancient plane trees around the market give it a typical Provencal look.

Castellane and its surroundings have a pleasant climate and there is a lot of natural beauty to see, the high Alps and the parc du Mercantour in the north (cols de la cayolle, d’Allos and la Bonette), the gorges du Verdon with its magnificent depths and views that start near Castellane towards the west, the sea and the Cote d’Azur in the east and the lavender fields in the south.

The lakes of Castillon and the St Croix for bathing or enjoying the views and colors.

The park Naturel Régional du Verdon today comprises 43 communes of 2 departments and covers around 178,000 hectares, making this area one of the least densely populated areas of France and thus a guarantee for peace and nature.

The Provence is an area in the southeast of France and is a former province of Italy. The Provence borders the Alps to the east, the Rhône river to the west and the Mediterranean to the south. Great
cities in the area are Marseille, Nice, Toulon and Aix-en-Provence.

The landscape of Provence is characterized by beautiful views, vast lavender fields, ravines and canyons. Contrasting are the high peaks of the Alps to the water plains of the Camargues.
